About the Artist

Kerosene Jones is a writer, curator, and interdisciplinary artist whose work explores marginalized queer subcultures and radical performance legacies, as well as the history, practice, and ethics of extended vocal technique. He approaches his creative practice and arts writing through a process that he refers to as "archival necromancy." Utilizing unorthodox compositional techniques and experimental research procedures, Jones endeavors to provide sonic, ceremonial, and intertextual sanctuary for horny ghosts with unfinished business: sex workers, drug users, AIDS victims, and those written out of predominant historical narratives. His work across mediums has been supported by Art Omi, BBC Radio 4, Black Mountain College Museum, Foundation for Contemporary Arts, MoMA PS1, New York State Council on the Arts, New York Foundation for the Arts, Onassis USA, The Poetry Project, Visual AIDS, and Wave Farm. His arts & culture writing has been published by BOMB, Filmmaker Magazine, Interview, Document Journal, X-TRA, Screen Slate, MUBI Notebook, The Brooklyn Rail, and The Kitchen Magazine. From 2017-2021 he was a founding member of the poetry and performance collective The Anchoress Syndicate, which created DIY smut marathons to raise funding for mutual aid initiatives including GLITS, SWOP, and Red Canary Song. In 2022 he was the creator and host of “Pure Garbage: An Oral Examination of John Waters, ” a historical podcast exploring filmmaker John Water's legacy and lasting impact on contemporary queer cultural production. Jones has worked as an archival intern for the artist Diamanda Galás, an archive contributor for transmission arts organization Wave Farm, and as an outreach coordinator for multimedia curator Barbara London. Since 2022 he has been the Arts Editor of WUSSY Magazine, a queer arts & culture organization and print publication based in Atlanta, GA, and as of Spring 2025 he is the Programs Manager at CPR - Center for Performance Research, in Brooklyn, NY.
