Inspired by Tricia Elam Walker and Ekua Holmes' book Dream Street, participants will use a multimedia approach to explore their dreams for themselves and their community. The workshop will begin with a video reading of Dream Street produced by students at Julia De Burgos Elementary School. Participants will then be invited to brainstorm their hopes and dreams for their community, which they will represent in a collage. Participants will learn a variety of collage techniques and have access to a variety of different materials to create their beautiful collages. The workshop will conclude with an invitation for participants to write a letter to their council members urging them to make these dreams a reality for their community. These letters will be mailed after the workshop with a photo of the participant's collage.
