Entwined Elysium: Anansi the Spider (Live Shibari Performance)

Red Door Productions with guest artist Marceline VQ & Anya Demure

Theater, Immersive/Interactive Experience

Connect

Production: Entwined Elysium showcases shibari, the Japanese art of rope bondage, through mesmerizing performances that blend intricate rope techniques with graceful movement. These artistic displays emphasize the beauty of human connection, trust, and vulnerability, transforming rope into a medium for artistic expression and emotional storytelling. Each performance weaves together elements of tradition, creativity, and intimacy, creating a captivating and serene atmosphere for the audience.

Show: Anansi the Spider is one where Marceline VQ and Anya Demure explore the practice of rope in three dimensions, unconfined to a single point or bamboo. Loosely based on the tale of how the spider got its waist, this is a story of being pulled in many directions simultaneously.

About the Artist

About Marceline VQ

Marceline VQ is an internationally recognized shibari artist whose work challenges viewers with aesthetic and technically complex rope work. She engages rope from all perspectives—as a model in her own rope, with other models in her rope, and as a model in others’ rope—allowing for a deeper understanding of the medium as a creative and connective tool. She adores the sensory experience of being in rope, as well as the idea of becoming “human sculpture.” Her work engages in conversation with themes from quantitative disciplines including geometry and physics and with themes from qualitative disciplines including analytic philosophy and universal empathy. She has studied with shibari communities across the globe, and is classically trained in visual fine arts.

About AnyaDemure

AnyaDemure has spent several years bottoming for rope, and more recently, rigging and self tying as well. She harbors a passion for creating and embodying aesthetically interesting body shapes, and appreciates enduring the physical challenge that bondage and suspension present. For her, rope bondage is sex, exercise, dance, art, and mutual experience. She is also dedicated to promoting bottom-inclusive education and presentation. She has been fortunate to tie and be tied in various communities on the east coast and abroad, but calls Brooklyn home.
