"exhibition" is a series of solos performed by Magaly Gallagher, Lucy Flippen, Noah Lewis, Ella Martin, and Kayla Ricketts that explores lesbian as gender through dressed embodiment. "By analyzing how the catwalk is articulated, transmitted, and performed by... models in specific socio-material contexts, the interaction between dress, technique, and sociality is highlighted as an embodied practice that relates to the performance of gender and esthetic labor" (Chris Hesselbein). This is the lens through which we created exhibition. In practice, dressed embodiment feels theatrical and character-driven. As I am researching my own relationship to gender in musical theater archetypes, I will be asking how we (the collaborators and myself) disrupt the performance of stereotypical gender through our movement and clothing.
