Can a 15th century storyteller “authentically” depict the lands of their ancestors? Within the frame story of a storyteller preparing a performance for the Royal Court that evening, the storyteller recounts the tale of an adventuring hero who gets stranded in a village that treats the far-traveled hero as “other.” However, when a vicious Cloud Beast threatens the village, the hero is called upon to save them. Travel through time and space with this sometimes silly, sometimes poignant, faux-Renaissance Faire performance that confronts and makes room for what it means to be a queer, Asian American performer in a medieval fantasy world.
Cannonball, produced by Almanac Dance Circus Theatre, is the first and largest independent festival hub of the Philadelphia Fringe that presents risk-taking independent artists in back-to-back performances next to delicious lounge spaces, fostering creative collisions and community conversation.
