Welcome to La Pulga Puta. Rooted in tradition and ritual within the Mexican community, you go here very early on the weekend and get good ass deals while eating some bomb ass food. The aroma of elotes, carne asada, grilled onions, gorditas, aguas frescas makes your mouth water. What sets this mercado apart is the lineup of performances taking place in the middle of the food court. Expect to witness exhilarating Lucha matches, different types of music playing all at once from cumbias to corridos, Ballet folklórico, karaoke. Here, we embrace the idea of a radical Mexican flea market that unapologetically showcases these cultural practices in a rebellious way. It's a chaotic celebration where cultural boundaries are shattered, and a sense of cabrona spirit reigns supreme. Join us as we create a space that defies expectations, challenges societal norms, and embodies the true essence of Mexican cultural expression. Bienvenidos a La Pulga Puta!

Cannonball, produced by Almanac Dance Circus Theatre, is the first and largest independent festival hub of the Philadelphia Fringe that presents risk-taking independent artists in back-to-back performances next to delicious lounge spaces, fostering creative collisions and community conversation.

About the Artist

Aleeza Garcia (they/she) is a Brooklyn based Chicanx and Tejana artist hailing from Fort Worth, TX. With a BFA from the University of The Arts, their work centers around dissecting the hyphen between Mexican and American through cultural liberation practices. Throughout their education, Aleeza has had the privilege of performing works by esteemed choreographers such as Tommie-Waheed Evans, Katie Swords Thurman, Jesse Zaritt, Shayla-Vie Jenkins, Sidra Bell, Marguerite Hemmings, Da'Von Doane, Helen Simoneau, Fana Fraser, Mark Haim, and Niall Jones. Notably, Aleeza collaborated with Niall Jones for the performance of "anunreal" at The Shed and in NYC. They are a company member with Carne Viva Dance Theater founded by Chachi Perez.

Carrying their culture everywhere they go, Aleeza believes in showing gratitude to their ancestors by sharing cultural practices and representing their community, mi gente. Their artistic exploration revolves around transforming generational trauma into resiliency, employing liberation-based healing and somatic practices to unleash their inner-hija's rage. They embrace authenticity, confidently proclaiming, "Fuck you, I am just going to do my thing, show up for me, and you can accept whoever I am, however."

By merging their artistic pursuits with cultural heritage, Aleeza Garcia aims to challenge societal expectations and elevate Latinidad. Through their work, they strive to create transformative experiences, empowering individuals to embrace their true selves and engage in the healing power of movement.
