Gasping navels, chittering cracks, burbling slits! Orificial Suite joyously burrows through the veneer of acceptable behavior to unearth an unruly symphony of compulsive bliss. Manifesting states that stray from the permissible, the orifice becomes a portal into a world part-animal, part-human, and completely unacceptable. Orificial Suite is a two-part devised performance made up of multiple movements, each devoted to a different hole, crack, or crevice. Orificial Suite 1 explores orifices from the psychological perspective of a central figure in a pseudo-solo work by Kathleen Taylor. Orificial Suite 2 cracks open the theme to reveal a world of multiplicities in an ensemble work with Almanac and collaborators. In exploring orifices (bodily, psychic, poetic, geologic) as sites of contagion, this piece muddies the threshold between our inner and outer worlds. Careening between comedy, melodrama, and abstraction, Orificial Suite puts into action the concept that dirt is matter out of place. Behavior will be dirtied, attaching elegance to indignity and grace to compulsion. In manifestations of states that erode or stray from the permissible, Orificial Suite celebrates and magnifies that which gets buried. Thursday, September 12th at 8:00pm - Orificial Suite 1 Thursday, September 12th at 9:30pm - Orificial Suite 2 Friday, September 13th at 6:30pm - Orificial Suite 1 Saturday, September 14th at 9:30pm - Orificial Suite 2

Kathleen Taylor is an artist currently living in Philadelphia whose performance-based practice combines clown, dance, physical comedy, and improvisation. Through vicious play, she summons brutish femininity, grotesque eroticism, and unbridled nonsense. She holds a BFA from Emily Carr University of Art and Design (Vancouver, Canada), and a Graduate Certificate from Pig Iron Theater Company/UArts Philadelphia. This background lays a foundation for a performance practice that is joyful and antic but rooted in material exploration and critical thought. Almanac is an award-winning, Philadelphia-based physical performance company dedicated to original works of genre-defying art. Since its founding, Almanac has premiered 14 full-length shows, touring across the United States and internationally. Almanacs virtuosic improvised and commissioned performances have been featured at the Jacob's Pillow, FringeArts, New York Live Arts, New York Botanical Gardens, and beyond. Almanac is also know for innovative, community-centered festival production, as exemplified by Rocky Award-winning Fit Fest, and Cannonball Festival, which the company initiated and solely produced until 2024, when Cannonball became independent.
