Thank you for an amazing 2024 Fringe season! Stay tuned for 2025 Fringe Festival dates.
As a trailblazing ensemble with a proud 49-year legacy as the longest-running feminist choir in the United States, ANNA Crusis is renowned for our powerful social justice-focused repertoire celebrating LGBTQ+ and marginalized communities, and committed to amplifying underrepresented perspectives to inspire audiences and foster greater understanding through the universal language of song. We've graced stages across the tri-state area and as far as Cuba, performing alongside artists like Demi Lovato, Hugh Jackman, and Marin Alsop.
But Tattoo Monologues is a performance that promises to be unlike any we have ever done.
Creating a typical ANNA concert usually starts with selecting a theme and then curating music that complements, contrasts, or elevates that central idea. We craft a flow from there that tells a compelling story, evokes emotion, or celebrates music's joy.
This show, however, has been anything but typical. Several years ago, over dinner with friend and collaborator Donna Torrisi, our artistic director Miriam Davidson was captivated by her passion for a project she was working on - a book called "Tattoo Monologues: Indelible Marks on the Body and Soul." Donna talked about photographing her patients' tattoos and engaging them in deep conversations about the personal stories behind them. As she described her vision to immortalize these powerful journeys, Miriam knew immediately that this was the makings of an ANNA concert.
And so began a remarkable creative process, one supported by the ANNA singers and a community of musicians, artists, composers, and video creators. Some contributed their own tattoo stories, lending their voices and talents to bring this production to life.
The result is "Tattoo Monologues" - a concert that celebrates the transformative power of personal expression, the courage to embrace one's authentic self, and the universal language of music to connect us all.

A Choir Rooted In Social Justice
ANNA Crusis Feminist Choir is the longest-running feminist choir in the United States, founded in 1975 by Dr. Catherine Roma. ANNA Crusis is known for its dedication to social justice, focusing on a wide range of repertoire including feminist and LGBTQ+ themes, celebrating the strength, resilience, and solidarity of marginalized communities.
Led by Artistic Director Miriam Davidson, ANNA’s membership embraces diversity of age, ethnicity, and gender identity; our repertoire reflects the rich spectrum of human lives and struggles. The songs we sing tell a variety of experiences and perspectives that point our singers and audiences to a greater understanding of the rich diversity of the world in which we live.
ANNA self-produces two major concerts each year and performs many community outreach programs throughout the season. We can often be heard singing at benefits, rallies, LGBTQ+ community events, and anywhere that music can bring a sense of hope and empowerment.
ANNA is a founding member of GALA, the Gay and Lesbian Association of Choruses. GALA is the world’s only association dedicated to serving the LGBTQ+ choral community, with more than 190 chorus and 10, 000 singer members in North America, Europe, South America, Africa, and Australia. ANNA is also a member of Sister Singers Network, a cooperative web of feminist choruses and ensembles, composers, arrangers, and individual singers working together to support and enrich the women’s choral movement.
