The Masque of the Red Death is a stage adaptation of the Edgar Allan Poe short story of the same name. Exploring themes of class consciousness and armchair activism, it tells the tale of Prince Prospero, the ruler of Terra Firma, who seals himself and others inside his castle to hold a brilliant masquerade while a plague destroys his kingdom and its people. We follow Princess Opula, who hopes to find a way to support those outside of the castle dying from this plague known as the Red Death. There are also pigs in blankets.
With over 100 offerings from rebellious circus, delicious dance, fearless theatre and activist art to workshops, parties, and more Cannonball pushes the boundaries of live performance at four different venues this Fringe. Come as you are and stay past bedtime at cannonballfestival.org.
