The Navel Gazers is a modern farce set in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. Over the course of their lease, Anna and Olivia are forced to confront their expectations of one another, their hopes for themselves, and the unstable futures ahead of them. Exploring themes of identity, selfishness, and the ever-changing visage of "adulthood,” this project sheds an empathetic light on the turbulent— and endearingly familiar— relationships of our youth.
In development since October 2023, the genervation process for The Navel Gazers involved an especially unique cohort of creatives. Actors Mouna Baba, Charlie Hume, Kathryn Taylor, and Oscar Wahlbarg contain among them two couples, two roommates, and two childhood best friends. Writer Jack Harding and director Michelle Chan are also long time friends in addition to repeated collaborators. These working dynamics created a story that not only digs into the minutiae of interpersonal politics, but expresses the shared fears plaguing this generation.
Sawubona Creativity Project (SCP): Theatre for Performance Art & Education welcomes diverse artists, from emerging playwrights to seasoned performers. Our goal is to foster original work and community-driven productions. Our space is a home for bold, transformative performances that inspire, educate, and connect audiences through the power of live art.

Starr Street Producitons is an independent theater and film company based in Brooklyn, New York. Since 2023, we have provided emerging artists with a platform to hone their craft and develop new work. This year, we will premiere two original plays in 7 cities across the US and Canada. The 25-show tour is the first time Starr Street Productions will perform outside of New York City. We can't wait to introduce ourselves to new audiences and to form meaningful connections with communities who appreciate the power of independent art. We need it now more than ever!
