There is no way out. James wakes in a room with no exit, drawn into a spectacle for the infringing dark. Forced to confront the man he has become, his reckoning is the entertainment that feeds an unending hunger. There is no way out. No tears, no excuses. Only what the silence can hold while The Watcher Sleeps.
Welcome to the world premiere of The Watcher Sleeps, a Lovecraftian psychological horror. Exploring themes of moral voyeurism in a confessional society, this play examines the process of turning trauma into a narrative - peeling back the lies we tell others and the lies we tell ourselves. In the end, can we bridge the gap between speaking the truth and truly feeling it? Can the guilt be borne? Or are you just here for the show?
This play contains profanity and verbal descriptions of traumatic events.
With over 100 offerings from rebellious circus, delicious dance, fearless theatre and activist art to workshops, parties, and more Cannonball pushes the boundaries of live performance at four different venues this Fringe. Come as you are and stay past bedtime at cannonballfestival.org.

Daniel Romano (playwright, actor) is a Philly-based artist with a BFA from NYU and an MFA from UCF. He specializes in exploring how narrative, confession, and silence operate as tools of public control within the horror and sci-fi genres. Similarly, the bystander effect and passive reception to violence are strong themes in his works. As an autistic actor, he is also passionate about disability representation in theater.
Savannah Cathers (producer) is a black theatre artist new to the Philadelphia scene. She thrives on finding the space between making art and living from art - simply, she wants to break down barriers and enable artists to do their best work. She received her BFA in Stage Management from Brenau University in Gainesville, GA. After which, she worked at various companies nationwide, including Alliance Theatre, Boston Lyric Opera, Santa Fe Opera, Central City Opera, and the Illinois Shakespeare Festival. In 2020, she pivoted to Arts Administration, completing a Master in Nonprofit Management from Columbia University. She is currently a fundraising consultant specializing in major gifts and campaigns.
