POPPY presents where is here, somewhere holding our reflections of home. Some nostalgia, something from before, something right now, a part of an ongoing moment — maybe you'll remember or want to know what here is for you and maybe it will make you think of home too.

where is here is made in collaboration with dancers Mikah Simone Bd, Shana Crawford, Nina Guevara, Vyette Tiya and live music by CHAIA and MIRA MIRA

About the Artist

POPPY is a budding collective which produces community-centered artist and artisan events. POPPY’s goal is to create sustainable creative economies for those most impacted by extractive systems. The hope is that this space—whether digital, physical, or internal—allows people to develop and/or maintain creative practices that are nurturing for themselves as well as the surrounding community. We believe strongly in self-healing as a method or mode of collective liberation, and that creativity is a powerful tool for unearthing the pains of society and finding new paths forward into a more ease-ful, loving future. We hope that POPPY can be an example of the power of radical imagination coupled with collective action. Want to connect? Reach out to us at poppycollective.phl@gmail.com

Hanna Da’Mes, cofounder of POPPY, is a writer and graphic designer based in Philadelphia. Her work explores the experience of being in the Palestinian diaspora and what it means to resist oppressive systems in America through the stories, symbols, and dreams of the collective. Hanna is a co-producer of where is here. Connect with her on socials at @hanna_dames or on substack at River Beneath the River.

Mikah Simone Bd (she/they) is an Arab-American dance artist. Mikah’s work will always be concerned about truths behind secrets; the joy, confusion, beauty, and grief of holding many identities in one body; and learning about love as a way to unravel fears and systemic belief systems into ongoing curiosity, growth, and determination. Mikah has performed her work at Philly FringeArts, The Art Room, and at Abrons Art Center. She holds a BA in Dance from Bennington College. She organizes with Philly Dance Share and is a co-founder of POPPY.
