Split Bill: Man of the People / Power Moulting

Overview

 Man of the People: Luciano “Lucky” McCormick is a stand up guy; he shakes down his friends’ enemies, and holds doors for broads. He’s that guy you avoid in line at the Acme and he probably sold you your last Christmas tree if you live on Snyder Ave. When called “problematic”, Lucky ain’t too sure what to say besides, “You got a problem, pal?!”. In Man of the People this sweet bum ponders how to be a good man when the world can’t seem to agree on what that actually means. 

Power Moulting disfigures and reconfigures behaviour so that it becomes impure, idiotic, and joyful. In an exploration of innocence and perversion, a hydra-headed series of characters merge with and separate from each other in ever-mutating ways. 

About the Artist

Bellisant's Bio

Bellisant (they/them) is a queer clown who loves laughter, cakes and contradictions. A graduate of the Pig Iron School, Bellisant creates work that slaughters the high horses we ride around on and highlights the tiny details (and people) we tend to ignore. Their work is personal and empowers the audience to confront the identities and assumptions we all hold. Most of all, they make work that makes people laugh. Really laugh. Like belly-ache-rolling-on-the-floor laugh: at themselves, at society, at whatever! No matter what, Bellisant reminds their audience that life’s one big joke and it’s far more fun to laugh about it with others than alone. 

Kathleen's Bio

Kathleen Taylor is an artist whose performance-based practice lives between the clown and the bouffon. By moving between incarnations of the idiotic and the haunting, proficiency and incompetence, ecstasy and restraint, her work is adamantly directed towards the hogwild. Through viscous play, she summons brutish femininity, grotesque eroticism, and unbridled nonsense. She holds a BFA from Emily Carr University of Art and Design (Vancouver, Canada) and recently completed her Master’s Certificate with Pig Iron Theatre Company.
