Art Room Outdoors: REAP What You Show

Details

Categories: Dance, Immersive, Party

Dates: September 19, 2021

Run Time: 240 mins

Venue: The Art Room Studio Parking Lot

Overview

For the Fringe 2021 performance season the Leah Stein Dance Company invites audiences to an interactive, outdoor event that will run for 4 hours in the parking lot of the Art Room Studio in South Philly. This event will provide space for guests to mingle after months of separation, witness live works from local artists, including former REAP artists, Ama Gora and L. Graciella Maiolatesi, and participate in guided improvisational movement scores. During the event we will introduce our reimagined REAP (Residency for Emerging Artists) program.

Extending the celebration of our 20th Anniversary season, our program will include exclusive access to LSDC’s archival works, live performance, and later in the evening a new film created during the pandemic featuring dance artists: Crux, Shannon Brooks, Maddie Hopfield, Kimya Jackson, L. Graciella Maiolatesi, Gabrielle Revlock, and Michele Tantoco.
There will be vegan-friendly food, drinks, mixing, and space for dancing in between performances. Performances and viewings will be repeated throughout the event providing audience with the initiative to “choose their own adventure” as they roam from mingling, to witnessing, to participating. While this event appears chaotic at first, if COVID has taught us anything, it is how we come together amidst the chaos, deeply listen to our impulses, and still find the through-line amongst the noise.

Leah Stein Dance Company

Leah Stein Dance Company connects people from a wide spectrum of backgrounds, age groups, and communities through the creation of site-specific dance that enlivens a sense of place. LSDC creates site-specific performances that invoke and illuminate the living histories of built and natural spaces. LSDC integrates improvisational methods and invites audiences to be part of the performance space; this shared experience among performers and audience is at the heart of LSDC dances. The company investigates interrelationships between body, sound and site, and develops and maintains strong collaborations with musicians, singers, visual artists and local communities. LSDC supports dance artists through residency and performance programming at the Art Room Studio and engages in ongoing educational programs with young people throughout the region.
