(R)evolution

Overview

(R)evolution immerses the audience in sculptural installations and choreographic performance. Three distinct dance works invoke our precarious relationships to our environments.

“AH” by Muyu Yuan Ruba. An installation of plastic bottles collected from parks, streets, and other places. A world surrounded by plastic, killing life. The bottles are like weapons stabbing into our bodies without any warning.

“Shapes of Life” by Christina Eltvedt. A sculptural reflection on the human animal using moving bodies and hand-crafted objects. Inspired by the similarities and differences of the many life forms that inhabit our planet, this piece will Illuminate the beauty, strangeness, and majesty within the parallels between earthborn creatures.

“With Increasing Frequency” by Elizabeth June Bergman. An installation and solo performance reflecting on histories of surveillance technology and dreams turned into dystopias. Moving through broken mirrors, video/image projection, and interactive sound makers that bring us into contact with the past, the question remains: what do we see in the future?

Muyu Yuan Ruba, Christina Eltvedt, Elizabeth June Bergman

Muyu Yuan Ruba, Chinese dance artist and choreographer, received her B.F.A. in Dance from Shanghai Normal University in 2013 and M.F.A. in Dance from Temple University in 2017. She is the sole founder of Shero Dance Company and L&M Dance studio which began in 2016. In addition, she is an adjunct professor at Georgian Court University in the Dance department. Her work incorporates other media such as puppetry, installations, dance film, improvisation and fashion.

Christina Eltvedt is a multidisciplinary artist, choreographer, and movement educator (dance & Pilates) who develops choreography, installations, and kinetic dance sculptures. Her stage, film, and site-specific work has been presented widely nationally and internationally. She holds an MFA in dance from Temple University and a BA in sculpture and dance from Northeastern Illinois University. Prior to relocating to the east coast, Christina danced with the Joel Hall Dancers, was a Danszloop Chicago ensemble member, and worked extensively with dance master Paul Sanasardo. She currently resides in Philadelphia where she produces her own work and shares her love for movement at several local studios.

Elizabeth June Bergman is a dancer, scholar, and educator based in Philadelphia. She holds a Ph.D. from Temple University and an MFA from The University of Iowa. Her body of creative work includes improvisational performance, screendance/video dance, and scholarship on popular and commercial dance. Elizabeth has taught at both alma maters, Bryn Mawr College, Point Park University, and is currently a Visiting Assistant Professor at Muhlenberg College.
