Boram Yi

Boram Yi, from Daegu, South Korea, received her BA and MFA in Dance Performance from the Korea National University of Arts, and an MA in Dance Education from CUNY, Hunter College. Since attending the university, she has been influenced by various dance teachers/dancers/choreographers are Misook Jeon, Changho Shin, Bora Kim, and Dorit Wiental with participated in their works. Having lived only as a full-time dancer and choreographer, she recognized the value of children's education in 2013 when she started to teach at a Nuri School for handicapped children while gaining valuable experience with special needs students by participating in volunteer activities. She began to teach at Gyeongbuk Arts High School. She taught Modern Dance styles such as Limon, Graham, and Cunningham to students who wanted to become professional dancers, while also teaching the process of choreography, and mentoring. Since 2016 she has continued her dance studies in New York City, participating in various works with Pedro Ruiz, Karisma Jay, and Summation Dance Company. She choreographed and performed Articulation Work I, was selected by the American Dance Guild Festival and received a scholarship for the Bolshoi Teacher Certification program in 2019. She is currently pursuing a Ph.D. degree in Dance at Temple University. Her research interests focus on Korean Dance in foreign countries, Korean Diaspora, Multiculturalism, and Dance Curriculum.
