It's Springtime, 1940. And you are a German-American.

For the Burger family, Frank, Trudi and their daughter, Kristin living in Jersey City, New Jersey this is a time of quiet desperation. Outwardly loyal to America, the homeland, but inwardly proud of the economic miracle in Germany, the Fatherland.

Since 2015, Lights, Theatre, Action! a Washington DC based troupe has been presenting controversial American history plays written by Virginia playwright, James F. Bruns. All plays have premiered at the D.C. Capital Fringe, Baltimore’s Charm City or the Philadelphia Fringe Festival.

In 2017, a critic from BROADWAY WORLD reviewing Lancer & Lace perhaps summed up the entire Lights, Theatre, Action! company oeuvre saying, "There is no middle ground in terms of reaction to this play."

About the Artist

Using amateur actors from Virginia, Maryland and the District, the Lights, Theatre, Action! theatre company has garnered multiple "Best of Fringe" nominations. Starting with American Lit in 2015, described as “serious and intriguing” by the WASHINGTON POST. In 2016, Confederates the first play in the Trilogy of the Confederacy was called “compelling” by DCist magazine. And then two years later was the provocative work, Black Confederates described as "eye-opening and relevant to today" by BROADWAY WORLD. In 2017 a revisiting of the JFK assassination called Lancer and Lace described as, “gripping and a solid dramatic concept” by DC THEATRE SCENE.

In 2019, came Caribbean Command an Iraq War drama, viscerally hated by the critics. Although in 2023, an excerpt from this play entitled, The Volunteer was published in the Qutub Minar Review, an international anthology of short plays. In 2023, during the Philadelphia Fringe Festival the Arden Theatre was the site of the final play of James F. Bruns' Trilogy of the Confederacy called Alas, Confederates,  a drama recounting the events of the third day at the Battle of Gettysburg.
