Raise a glass with the Walk Around Philadelphia community as we celebrate the completion of the fall perimeter-walk cycle!
For veteran walkers, it’s a well-earned happy-hour to swap border tales, reconnect with walking buddies, and reflect on what you discovered along the 100-mile edge of the city.
For curious newcomers, it’s the perfect low-key gateway into the project: meet people who just circled Philadelphia, browse route maps and photos, and learn how you can join or support future walks.
WHY WE WALK:
Walk Around Philadelphia uses the simple act of exploring the city’s border to spark deeper conversations about equity, access, environment, and belonging, and works to make this unique experience of the city's edges accessible to all. We are building a shared pilgrimage experience that can unite the whole region.
What to expect:
• Informal happy-hour vibes at Cherry Street Pier’s waterfront beer garden
• Meet some of our walkers & Trail Angels and hear stories from the city's edge
• Be there to welcome & celebrate the walkers completing the final segment of the Fall cycle of walks
(They'll have walked there from the Navy Yard!)
• Food & drink available for purchase from pier vendors

Walk Around Philadelphia is a participatory public art project and community engagement initiative that invites people to explore the city’s edges on foot—fostering dialogue around access, equity, and belonging in public spaces. We create accessible, inclusive recreational and educational opportunities that connect people to nature, parks, and each other while deepening their understanding of the social and environmental systems that shape our city.
What began as an artist’s residency has grown into a vibrant, citywide movement—engaging over 2, 000 participants and building a diverse community of neighbors, artists, educators, and civic leaders.
Our mission is to create transformative opportunities for learning, reflection, and connection by inviting people to walk the city’s edges, explore the landscapes of our parks and public spaces, and imagine a more equitable and welcoming Philadelphia. Through walking, storytelling, mapping, and creative collaboration, we inspire people to care for the natural and built environment, engage with one another across lines of difference, and contribute to a more vibrant, livable community for all.
Walk Around Philadelphia founder JJ Tiziou is an artist, community organizer & massage therapist based in West Philadelphia. His 85, 000 sq ft How Philly Moves mural at Philadelphia International Airport is the largest piece of public art in the city and was named one of the nation's best public art projects by Americans for the Arts. To date, he has walked the full perimeter of Philadelphia 15 times and is joined by a growing community of Circumnavigators.
