Exploring the Edge: Walk Around Philadelphia

JJ Tiziou & Walk Around Philadelphia

Immersive/Interactive Experience, Workshop, Spoken Word & Storytelling

Digital Fringe

JJ Tiziou has walked the entire perimeter of Philadelphia THIRTEEN TIMES and will be embarking on his 14th complete circumnavigation of the city Sept 6-29

On Thursdays during the Festival, he’ll hop on Zoom to share about the project and answer questions about the experience.

These virtual sessions are a great opportunity to learn about Walk Around Philadelphia and the city; you’re invited to join the walk segments too!

These sessions are great opportunities for:

  • Folks who are walking an upcoming segment to help prepare
  • Folks who’ve walked a preceeding segment to reconnect
  • Folks who’re just curious about the project or the city

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Walk Around Philadelphia creates cultural events that bring people together in shared experiences that connect them to their own bodies, their neighbors, and the landscape of Philadelphia as we explore our boundaries together.

The ~100+ mile walk around the entire city border happens twice a year in February & September, with other events throughout the year.

Participants can join for any individual segment or partial segment as they are able, or set out to do it on their own anytime!

Walk Around Philadelphia organizer JJ Tiziou is an artist, community organizer and Licensed Massage Therapist based in West Philadelphia.

His 85,000 sq ft ‘How Philly Moves‘ mural at Philadelphia International Airport was recognized as one of the nation’s best public art projects by Americans for the Arts and is the largest piece of public art in the city.

JJ has walked the entire perimeter of Philadelphia 13 times and committed to making this unique experience of the city more accessible to all.

September 5, 12, & 19, 60 min. duration, PWYC $0+
