Anniversary — 5 Years of Lino Kino
In celebration of their five-year anniversary, we’re bringing the DIY spirit of Lino Kino’s beloved site-specific screenings to the FringeArts’ Haas Biergarten for a one-night-only evening of film and video art produced by local artists. So sit back, relax, and enjoy a movie-magic inspired cocktail courtesy of the bar. This event is free for all to attend.
Due to the weather, this event will take place at Cherry Street Pier.
Lino Kino is a Philadelphia-based media arts collective dedicated to exploring new approaches to experimental moving image exhibition. Since 2018, they have curated a multitude of new and oft-overlooked film/video art and performance with their open-call and 16mm film screenings. They have also engaged in art-making though leading free workshops and presenting large-scale public installations.
In the summer of 2020, Philadelphia’s Institute of Contemporary Art invited Lino Kino to curate their 21st annual Open Video Call. The collective has also produced and exhibited two seasons of Lino Kino TV—their ad hoc television studio project at AUTOMAT and HOT•BED galleries, where guest artists were invited to prepare live segments for online streaming. Additional past partners include the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts (PAFA), Cherry Street Pier, Vox Populi, Bok, Fleisher Art Memorial, Da Vinci Art Alliance, Artspace in New Haven, the Neighborhood Film Festival in Montreal, and the Portland-based video group Mobile Projection Unit—for which the collective received funding from the University of Pennsylvania’s Sachs Program for Arts Innovation to present multiple projection-mapping and theatrical screening events.
