Casual Fantastic: Good Things

Details

Categories: Interdisciplinary, Music, Visual Art

Dates: September 15, 2021 - September 25, 2021

Run Time: 60 mins

Venue: MAAS Building Studio

Overview

Songs with style. Enjoy a musical brew of rock ‘n’ roll, parlor pop, lounge punk, and backcountry noir with visual landscapes projected about the space. In this concert of storytelling songs of good and bad, whiskey and The Dollar General, Casual Fantastic navigates life’s darkness with sly humor—and life’s joys with an eye on the exit.

Casual Fantastic features songwriter Josh McIlvain on guitar and vocals with Nikitas Menotiades on stand up drums—the bass drum an old suitcase—and vocals. Formed in 2019 as something of a 2-person indie rock busking band, the duo draws on their history as performers to add theatricality and humor to their bare-bones brand of music making. Casual Fantastic: Good Things marks their foray into a fully realized, interdisciplinary storytelling concert performance.

Casual Fantastic: Good Things is part of the Cannonball Festival, a satellite festival, concurrent with the Philadelphia Fringe Festival, all about building community and creating a hub of energy to make this Fringe season a splash! With over 130 events spanning theater, dance, circus, music, and film, including indoor and outdoor shows, nightly cabarets, events, workshops and more, there’s something for swashbucklers of all ages and inclinations.

Casual Fantastic

Singing about love, whiskey, and the Dollar General, Philly’s Casual Fantastic mixes up a musical brew of original rock n roll, parlor pop, lounge punk, and backcountry noir. Casual and Fantastic, Casual Fantastic features songwriter Josh McIlvain on guitar and vocals with Nikitas Menotiades on stand up drums (with an old suitcase for a bass drum) and backing vocals. Formed in 2019, the duo draws on their long history as performers to add theatricality and humor to their bare-bones brand of music making.
