Overview

Hayley Elizabeth Collins, mezzo-soprano, and collaborative pianist, Michael Confalone, welcome all to witness what happens when you combine two of Hayley’s favorite things, poetry and music! Art song is the combination of these two art forms, and is widely used in the classical voice world alongside opera, choir, and small ensembles. Together we’ll speak through poetry, look at the words written with a critical eye, and Hayley will sing what we’ve read through!

This new annual hub, curated by Philly Children's Theatre is the perfect opportunity to let your imaginations run wild through the power of art. Join us Sept 23 & 24 at the Boys and Girls Club of West Philadelphia in Cobbs Creek for two full days of art-making, music-creating, dance-grooving workshops. Plus interactive performances of opera, theatre, storytelling, and dance.

About the Artist

Hayley Elizabeth Collins, mezzo-soprano, is a Philadelphia based artist, educator, and friend to all. Having both the conservatory and public university experience has allowed Hayley to be an active performer in a multitude of high-caliber ensembles, in addition to creating their own multidisciplinary studies.

In concert, Hayley has performed with the Delaware Choral Academy in Aix-en-Provence, France, the Westminster Choir College Jubilee Singers, the University of Delaware Chorale, and the Westminster Choir College Symphonic Choir. Recently, Hayley sang Gustav Holst's "The Planets" under the direction of Marin Alsop with the Philadelphia Symphonic Choir and the Philadelphia Orchestra. Hayley has also had the opportunity to sing both soprano and alto at Immanuel on the Green in New Castle, Delaware, and currently sings at the Church of St. Luke and the Epiphany in Philadelphia.

Described by many as a beam of sunshine, Hayley is able to connect with all ages. Whether it be in a musical setting or not, Hayley strives to create safe spaces for others while being a vulnerable human themself. When not singing, you can find Hayley reading a stack of books, writing quickly in a notebook, babysitting a flock of children, embarking on a new knitting project, or drinking a hot cup of coffee, sometimes all at once.

Michael Confalone, collaborative pianist, is a pianist and vocalist living near Philadelphia. He graduated from Temple University with a Bachelor of Music in Music Theory and a concentration in voice. While at Temple, Michael was a member of various choirs including University Singers, Concert Choir, and Graduate Conductors Chorus. He is currently a member of the choir and an occasional pianist at The Church of St. Luke and the Epiphany in Philadelphia.
