Overview

“exhibition” is a series of solos performed by Magaly Gallagher, Lucy Flippen, Noah Lewis, Ella Martin, and Kayla Ricketts that explores lesbian as gender through dressed embodiment. “By analyzing how the catwalk is articulated, transmitted, and performed by… models in specific socio-material contexts, the interaction between dress, technique, and sociality is highlighted as an embodied practice that relates to the performance of gender and esthetic labor” (Chris Hesselbein). This is the lens through which we created exhibition. In practice, dressed embodiment feels theatrical and character-driven. As I am researching my own relationship to gender in musical theater archetypes, I will be asking how we (the collaborators and myself) disrupt the performance of stereotypical gender through our movement and clothing.

About the Artist

Sharedelusion, co-founded by Lucy Flippen and Magaly Gallagher, is a dance collective whose work explores boundaries, borders, and middle spaces. They debuted their first evening-length show see me to see you at Philly PACK in March 2024. sharedelusionhas presented work with Philadelphia Fringe Festival via Cannonball Festival, Kun-Yang Lin/Dancers Inhale Artist Showcase, and Koresh Artist Showcase. Most recently, Lucy and Mags were in residence at the Maas Building in January 2025.
LUCY FLIPPEN (she/her) is presently an artist-in-residence with Kun Yang-Lin/Dancers and a teaching artist with Music Theatre Philly. She received her BFA in Dance with an Art Therapy minor at University of the Arts. Most notably at UArts, she performed in restaged productions of DMan in the Waters (Bill T. Jones) and Changing Steps (Merce Cunningham Trust).
MAGALY GALLAGHER (she/they) is a dancer and choreographer from Laredo, Texas. They received their BFA in Dance under the direction of Donna Faye Burchfield. At UArts, Magaly trained under and performed for Katie Swords-Thurman, Mark Haim, Curt Haworth, Sheer Spectacle, and Wayne St. David. Most recently, they debuted as a performer for Akira Uchidas Peridance Performance Project.
