On her way to her Tennessee hometown, Lena—traveling artist and avowed atheist—has a one-night stand… with an Angel. Back home, she reconnects with her now-out high school teacher, watches her aging mother embrace youthfulness with abandon, and tries to find a way back to her mysterious new lover.
Boundaries between past and present, sacred and profane begin to dissolve, shedding new light on the Southern Catholic roots and adult lesbian identity that Lena has always tried to keep separate. Blending song, movement, and dynamic character shifts, this irreverent solo show asks: how has life on the road prepared one woman to face the place—and people—that raised her?
Developed in part by The Assembly’s Deceleration Lab, catch this solo show fresh off its workshop production in Lima, Peru.
With over 100 offerings from rebellious circus, delicious dance, fearless theatre and activist art to workshops, parties, and more Cannonball pushes the boundaries of live performance at four different venues this Fringe. Come as you are and stay past bedtime at cannonballfestival.org.Learn MoreTheir work has been seen at Dixon Place, Harpo’s Salon (hosted by The Assembly Theatre), Burning Coal Theatre (NC) and Philadelphia’s Cannonball Festival, as well as in El Galpón Espacio, Compañía de Teatro Físico, and the Museum of Memory, Tolerance & Social Inclusion in Lima. This year, E&L Performance is proud to facilitate the second edition of their international performance lab Frontera Flotante in Peru.
