Overview

Yuki’s newest work, “Memories of the Moon”, is inspired by the diary of a prisoner in a Japanese internment camp during WWII. The gentleman was imprisoned in a room without clocks, so he logged the passage of time by counting the full moons. Yuki’s choreographic works have been presented at various adjudicated dance festivals across the country, such as the Booking Dance Festival at Lincoln Center, WHITE WAVE’s Solo/Duo Festival at Dixon Place, Come Together Dance Festival at the Suzanne Roberts Theater, CDCfest at Orlando Rep Theater and the Virtual Pathway Dance Festival to name a few.
The second piece, “Jouska” will be choreographed by company Associate Director and Dance Artist, Olivia Wood. A 10 minute piece for 3 dancers, “Jouska” (or the compulsive replaying of a conversation or situation in one’s mind) is loosely inspired by Toshikazu Kawaguchi’s literary masterpiece, Before the Coffee Gets Cold. It is a beautiful novel in which the characters may go back in time only for brief moments, under very specific conditions. One of these conditions is that nothing they do in the past will have any effect on the present. Loved ones cannot be resurrected, past wrongs cannot be erased. In this piece, the choreographer seeks to portray these “what-if” conversations through movement to show that while the past will remain unchanged, the present and future state of being are most assuredly affected. Cannonball will be “Jouska”‘s debut.

Cannonball, produced by Almanac Dance Circus Theatre, is the first and largest independent festival hub of the Philadelphia Fringe that presents risk-taking independent artists in back-to-back performances next to delicious lounge spaces, fostering creative collisions and community conversation.

About the Artist

Born in Japan,Yuki Ishiguro founded Yu.S.Artistry in 2018 in New York City after emigrating to the United States.
Yuki graduated Ritsumeikan University in Japan with a BA in business.
During college, he watched break dancers perform on the streets of Kyoto and was immediately inspired to dance. After studying ballet and break dance intensely, Yuki worked as a professional ballet dancer in Japan. In 2009, he moved to New York City to study contemporary dance at “Dance New Amsterdam”. While living in New York, Yuki earned his Simonson Method certification and his RYT500 Yoga teacher certification.
In addition to his classical and contemporary training, Yuki also studied with renowned street performers, such as Kenichi Ebina, winner of America's Got Talent, season 8. Before the foundation of Yu.S.Artistry, Yuki performed as a professional dancer with Roxey Ballet, Emery LeCrone Dance, IsadoraNOW, Catapult Entertainment, and DanceVisions NY. He also toured with fusion flute musician, Kenzie Slottow and worked in collaboration with Japanese master Koto musician, Tomoe Sasano, at Carnegie Hall.
From his trainings and professional performance experience, Yuki created his signature choreographic style. In addition to working as artistic director for Yu.S.Artistry, he teaches at Institute of Dance Artistry and The Rock School West, and has offered master classes at Nazareth College.

"a dancer of remarkable athleticism. It was a thrill to watch him execute his moves with skill and eclat, maintaining a smooth unbroken dramatic flow as he shifted through one style after another. " - The Dance Journal
“This dancer’s range- from Ballet to hip-hop- gives all his dancing a striking individuality.” - Oberon's Grove
