Overview

Lanky loidlings.
Squishy Schloompings.
Spiky Spa-doo-dlings.
Marina Cherry squeaks, zooms, and tiptoes through a micro-space. Fragmenting pieces of a spunky personal universe puddle over the stage for her solo performance, Only Bones v1.6.
Intriguingly engulfing, sporadically disturbing, this quirky conglomeration creates a mishmash of corporal and cerebral manipulations- a follow-up project to the original Only Bones (v.1.0) created by Thomas Monckton. Bursting the bubbles of banality, in a balance between theatrical and physical, Marina nudges the limits, researching innovation amongst extreme constraints, using only one light, it is a maximization of the minimal.

//

Only Bones Project is a minimalist physical theatre and sparse-video performance project. Using uniform and restrictive parameters solo performers create their own unique live shows with a similar aesthetic. With guidelines of “only one light, no narrative, no set, no props, no text, and all within a limited amount of space”
Original Text from Director Thomas Monckton

The simple aesthetic and minimalistic concept have equally carried over to the production side of the creation; the single light and sound-creation for the show are entirely self-sufficient at the click of one button. The artist has programmed the cues to from start to finish on their own, minus one black out after the audience has entered before the start of the show.

Marina Cherry

Marina Cherry is a contortionist/acro-dancer trained at ESAC (École Supérieure des Arts du Cirque) in Brussels after starting off her professional circus formation at ENC (École Nationale de Cirque) in Montreal. Originally from Montana in the US, Marina spent her childhood learning gymnastics, dance, painting, and orchestral music on the bassoon, until discovering the world of circus. During her years of school, she immersed herself in performing arts of all sorts finding her singular niche in the pockets between circus and dance, sprinkled in hints of physical theatre and strong desires towards performance art. She is simultaneously pursuing a degree in philosophy with the University of London (online).
At this date, the artist is working in diverse projects around Europe including the upcoming production TALWEG by Belgian company Petri Dish, the new creation KANO with Belgian Director Philippe Vande Weghe and his company Les Argonauts. Notable past experiences have been with the English/German circus and theatre company A Movement of Humans in the show ‘Idiom’.
She is now based in Stockholm, Sweden. Marina is currently in the process of creation for her other solo project IN[EX].
