Overview

As BS puts it, “I have been working in my happy place (a giant factory) on a new project. The working of this new spectacle will likely continue on for more than a few lambs tail shakes. I certainly didn’t want my 25th Fringe Festival to go by without participating (I first performed in the fringe with the brilliant Eric Schoefer in 1998). As many of you know, it’s been a thrilling 25 years of adventure and creativity. With this new project in the works, as well as a strong desire to try new things in the future, I have decided to make this JUNK’s last Fringe Festival show. I am planning on making it everything that JUNK’s Fringe fans expect and anticipate. So, hang on to your seats!”

PROTOTYPE is an exclusive, you guessed it, “prototype” of the above spectacle Brian has been working on. The show is a mega remount and expansion of a work originally set in an abandoned, underground swimming pool. Much of the production’s original universe remains in essence but this update is well, . . . mega. Please join Brian and JUNK at the close of a wonderful 25 years of adventure and creativity.

This September 20-24 JUNK will be presenting our final Fringe Festival production, PROTOTYPE, to our Brave Fringe Audience and hopefully some newbies. Are you ready to get down and gritty? Prototype will be raw and no-holds-barred. A true-to-the-fringe stunning venue, beauty, grace and high fly-flying grit. As usual, seating and shows will be limited. Expect JUNK

Description: Set sometime in the near-distant future, two scavengers come across a darkened abyss. Is it worth the dangerous decent? And what does the upper crust care of this sink hole of a chasm anyway. Dive deep into the near-distant past as four high-flying aerial dance artists wend their way through the leftovers of ourselves.

About the Artist

JUNK offers dance to audiences and communities in unconventional but accessible ways—guided by innovation, impact, engagement, and collaboration.

Brian Sanders’ JUNK creates a common ground that brings people together to experience and share art across diverse communities, genres, and audiences. JUNK’s highly imaginative, boundary-breaking, and provocative work is eagerly sought after. For the last 30 years, Sanders has successfully brought bold, imaginative, and visually stunning performances to even the most “conservative” platforms. Sanders is committed to the future of performance and dance, engaging youth, communities, and artists through workshops, events, and special projects.

The reward for being open to Sanders’ creative aesthetic and vision is a sense of shared experience and community and seeing the world in new, wondrous ways.
