Overview

As quarantine hits, a newly single person mistakenly receives a terrarium and several caterpillars. Containment and cocoon collide as metaphor and consequence in RHOPALOCERA: a digital opera. This piece was conceived during containment, as meditation through music and movement to ask: what are we becoming?

A piece developed remotely and in it’s first phrase of development. Original score by Laura Lizcano, camera trickery and acting devloped by Paul Deichmann and Laura Lizcano. Will be live streamed on twitch.

ABOUT LAURA LIZCANO
Laura Lizcano is a Colombian-born vocalist, songwriter, and theatre-make
Influenced by artists like Norah Jones and Natalia Lafourcade, Lizcano combines her formal training as a jazz vocalist with her love for folk and pop music. This combination of styles is evident within her own lyrically-driven compositions.

Lizcano has performed at the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts for the Sittin In’ Series at Innovation Studio and at Dizzy’s Club Coca Cola in New York City as the featured vocalist for the Temple University Big Band. She has also opened for Gaby Moreno and Sammy Miller and the Congregation at World Cafe Live in Philadelphia. Most recently, she has been featured in the virtual Wawa Welcome America Festival and Philadelphia's iconic Philly Folk Fest in 2020.

She follows her self-released debut EP, Chance on Me (2018), with her first full-length studio album, Heart (2020). Both projects are available on Bandcamp and all streaming platforms.

ABOUT Paul Deichmann
Paul Deichmann is an Philadelphia-area improviser, dreamer, theatre artist, clown, and podcaster. A fan of the strange, he has been developing new theatre and teaching improvisation, new play writing, acting, since 2017. You can hear goofs at: theoffercast.com
