Spherus is extra-dimensional modern circus where the performers interact with light and multimedia to create a new world for the audience. The cast manipulates fabric, acrylic, & wooden shapes in a sea of projected light – seamlessly integrating their unique circus skills to delight the imagination. The full program includes international juggling champion Greg Kennedy complemented by two aerial dancers interacting with projections; the trio combines juggling, technology and dazzling aerial artistry on silks, ropes, & spinning hoops in never-before-seen ways.
Greg Kennedy - the engineer turned juggler - is the mastermind behind the astounding Spherus production. After touring with Cirque Du Soleil for five years and performing for millions in over 40 countries, Kennedy has returned to Philadelphia to produce a new world of his own. He has broken the bonds of modern circus to construct an experience that marries physical prowess to technological innovation, and incorporated the talents of a truly unique cast and creative team to make it shine. Kennedy has incorporated the talents of Jeff Bethea, a multimedia enthusiast, & Brynna Raine, the creative paradox, to help visualize and create the set & interactive media that powers Spherus. Bethea mined his background in music and media design to explore new ways to integrate the physical and digital worlds. Raine, a video producer and graphic designer, used her talents to keep the cast and crew working cohesively to make their vision a reality and deliver an amazing show. Spherus wouldn't be possible without its talented acrobatic aerialists Christine Morano & Rachel Lancaster. The two aerialists blend fantastic feats of strength with stunning circus-spectacles choreographed within Kennedy's unique apparatuses. These outstanding women (who teach their skills as well as perform) have a grace that lends the show constant motion; they act as the catalyst that brings the production to life. The cast is driven to provide an experience that bridges the gap between modern circus and current technology. As a self-contained show, it utilizes 3 projectors, portable LED lighting, full set installation, audiovisual and interactive media, and the souls of astoundingly talented individuals to create a larger-than-life production for audiences of all ages. Spherus is a unique spectacle of new media design and circus arts - it truly is playing with light and air. DCMetro says, “Spherus changes the audience’s perspective - 5 stars.”
