Suddenly Last Summer brings us into the teeming garden of Sabastian, an enigmatic aesthete who travels the world each summer in order to write a single piece of poetry. Last summer, on the beaches of Cabeza de Lobo, Sebastian died horrifically. Only his cousin, Catherine, knows why. She struggles to share the unbelievable truth before her aunt has the story cut out of her head.
Die-Cast brings a radical deconstruction to this classic play, focuses on William’s search for beauty in the unflinching eye of an ancient, cruel god, beyond the confines of puritanical society. This stripped-down version is performed with no design outside of the live percussion. The cast is armed with the text, breath, rhythm, and physicality in lieu of props, set, costume, or lighting design. William’s own stage directions become performative text, letting the piece infiltrate the audience’s imagination.
Die-Cast will share the piece for two nights as part of the FringeArts Festival before traveling to Provincetown on Cape Cod to be part of the international Tennessee Williams Festival.
“Responsible for some of the East Coast's most innovative, existentially-minded takes on what it means to make theatre in the 21st century”- dosageMagazine
Die-Cast is an artist collective that believes in radical collaboration. We create mixed-media installations and immersive performance art. Our work is site-responsive, be it in a physical, digital, or natural environment.
We have created over 25 pieces since our founding in 2017. We have taken over historical mansions to allow audiences to wander from room to room, catching illicit love affairs and challenging the hetero-normative gaze in our adaption of La Ronde.
We have created work on Virtual Reality platforms to allow visitors to explore our worlds, like in our Inter Terrestrial commissioned by the I-Park Open Air Gallery.
We are iconoclasts in our hearts and have never worried about the hero’s journey. We are endlessly curious.
