About the Artist

Madi Distefano is a multidisciplinary artist that resides in Philadelphia. Madi was the Founding Artistic Director of Brat Productions for 20 years, where she wrote, produced, directed and acted in countless shows. She also worked frequently at the Walnut St Theatre as a director and actor. Other local theatres she has worked with include The Wilma, The Arden, The Lantern, Bristol Riverside, and Theatre Exile where she played Tanya in The North Plan. She has taught acting at Temple University and Arcadia University. Her first original one-person show, Popsicle's Departure, 1989, won Best Solo Show at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, and a Fringe First for innovative writing and was nominated for Barrymore Awards in the categories of Best New Play and Best Leading Actress. Other Fringe shows include A 24-Hour The Bald Soprano, EYE-95 RE-TARRED, Naked Cocktail, and Sweetie-Pie which she wrote and performed for Azuka Theatre. Madi is a 9-time Barrymore Award nominee in 5 categories and won Best Leading Actress as Breda in Brat's production of Eden at Fergie's Pub. She is also a recipient of grants from The Leeway Foundation, Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, Phoebe Haas Trust, the Wyncote Foundation and others. She holds an MFA in directing from Temple University. Madi opened a music venue in Austin, TX called Dozen Street in 2014, and then worked for American Airlines and travelled. After a 13 year break from professional theatre, she is thrilled and terrified to return to the Philadelphia stage with a new one-person show.
