About the Artist

Hailing from one of the “most dangerous cities in the country” Camden, NJ, Desi P Shelton’s plays are deadly! She creates installation theater as a social change agent to engage the community on pertinent issues often silenced and killed in urban communities. Her titles provocatively engage the contemporary urban woman whose voice has been marginalized in theater and other art forms. Her recent plays and film work include unheard voices of sex workers in P@$$y 4 $ale! which received the Leeway Transformation Award in playwriting given to social change artists. She amplified the voice of young single mothers in her one woman show I Killed My Baby’s Daddy which toured throughout the US and Panama. Her upcoming projects are Curlfriend Theater Series, performed in hair salons and Child Support examining the effect of the child support system on children and fathers using court transcripts and footage.
