“And Her Name Was Pickles” is a brand-new one-woman show making its debut this fall in Philadelphia. Pickles, a foul-mouthed, vociferous guinea pig, wakes up in a cage at a pet store in central New Jersey with no recollection of how she got there. The night before, she cheated on her boyfriend, a sexy, strong-willed guinea pig named Laser Beam. She remembers him walking into the club, catching her grinding all up on this other pig, him running out, her chasing after him, and then BOOM... her memory goes blank. She suspects he may have hired a drug-dealing pig gang to kidnap her and dump her there, though she can’t be sure. Only one thing is certain: she’s determined to get the hell out and make it back to the real world, where she can continue her booming career as a hairstylist and maybe even open her own salon, specializing in pig pubic hair sculpting. In this 60-minute show, hear Pickles’s tales about her crazy ex and her overbearing mother, her career aspirations, and the trials and tribulations of surviving the streets of Jersey, to which she is eager to return and get her freak back on.

Founded in 2000, the Performance Garage is housed in a historic 19th-century building that was originally a horse stable. Since 2002, the façade and interiors were renovated, and the space was transformed into supportive non-profit dance studios with residencies, educational programs, and a 110-seat dance theater.
