What happens when chamber musicians stop worrying about genre?
Bombe Fits is a new musical collective founded by soprano Katy Avery to explore the expressive possibilities of the voice beyond traditional boundaries. Inspired by a love of singing in many different styles, colors, and sound worlds—not just a conventional bel canto approach—the ensemble inhabits the space between a chamber music concert and a night out seeing your favorite band.
Drawing on Philadelphia's vibrant community of composers and performers, Bombe Fits embraces collaboration, experimentation, and the thrill of live music that feels immediate, unpredictable, and alive.
For the Philadelphia Fringe Festival, Bombe Fits presents a program of original works by Emma Cardon-Wake, Evan Monroe Chapman, John Conahan, Kevin Crouch, Tim Mukherjee, and Brendan Sweeney. Many of the composers join the ensemble onstage to perform their own music, dissolving the traditional boundaries between composer and performer. Several have also written their own texts, creating works that are deeply personal while engaging with some of the defining questions, anxieties, and absurdities of contemporary life.
The program traverses a remarkably wide emotional and musical landscape. Audiences will encounter meditations on social media and algorithms, climate change and displacement, modern communication, identity, and the increasingly strange realities of contemporary life. Along the way, influences from contemporary classical music, art song, folk traditions, experimental music, and heavy metal collide in unexpected ways.
Built around voice, guitar, bass, and percussion, Bombe Fits creates a musical environment where genres, artistic roles, and expectations are constantly shifting. Funny, unsettling, urgent, and occasionally loud, this is music that refuses easy categorization.
You may leave with a new favorite composer, a new favorite band, or a new idea of what a concert can be

Bombe Fits is a Philadelphia-based musical collective founded by soprano Katy Avery to explore the expressive possibilities of the voice beyond traditional stylistic boundaries. Drawing together performers, composers, and improvisers from Philadelphia's vibrant new music community, the ensemble inhabits the space between contemporary chamber music and the energy of a live band.
Centered around voice, guitar, bass, and percussion, Bombe Fits creates collaborative performances that blur the lines between composer and performer, art song and popular music, precision and spontaneity. The ensemble's repertoire includes newly commissioned works, original compositions, inventive arrangements, and genre-defying collaborations that draw inspiration from contemporary classical music, folk traditions, rock, heavy metal, and beyond.
Bombe Fits made its debut in June 2026 and is committed to creating adventurous, accessible performances that invite audiences to experience contemporary music in unexpected ways.
