About the Artist

"WETUMTUM is a collective designated as a non-profit cultural association that promotes, develops, and supports artistic projects and movements primarily aimed at children and families, while encouraging community participation.

The fundamental premise of WETUMTUM is that every human being possesses the capacity to create, participate, and develop through contact with music and performance. We believe this ability begins at an early age; therefore, our artistic work is designed to go beyond mere contemplation. Through playful moments, we strive to achieve active participation and interaction. Currently, WETUMTUM has 16 touring shows, 3 workshops, and 2 installations, and is also the creator and organizer of the Festival Papagaio (Papagaio Festival) in Ílhavo.
Artur Carvalho, Bruno Estima, David Calhau, and David Valente are the founders and directors of this collective. They share percussion as their foundational instrument of learning, as well as a drive for individual enrichment through the integration of other complementary artistic fields, such as theatre, movement, and circus arts. Both together and individually, they have directed or participated in various artistic creations within and outside WETUMTUM. This includes projects at Casa da Música (Porto), Culturgest (Lisbon), PELE (Porto), Tokyo Bunka Kaikan (Japan), PARTIS projects (Gulbenkian Foundation), Erasmus+, Universidade Católica, and the Palau de la Música Catalana, among others."
