Fire Portal is a multi-media installation and performance that uses fire both as a destructive symbol and as a means of manifestation. Through dynamic performance, imagery, sound, movement and of course, projected flame, Red Rae grapples with the idea of burning down our current systems of power to collectively imagine what might rise out of the ashes. There are so many systems of power (late stage corporate capitalism, transphobia, white supremacy and patriarchy to name a few) that many people would like to see destroyed. Fire Portal will draw on extensive research into fire as a tool of both resistance and regeneration to create an audience experience that feels both like being torn to pieces and built back up again.

Life evolved hand in hand with fire, holding that knowledge helps us to re-contextualize our relationship with destruction. The fire portal opens in the space as well as into Red’s body, peeling back their skin to unveil fiery dreamscapes, revealing that we all contain that which is necessary for our evolution and destruction.
