Reader, I texted him!

Brontë enthusiast and actor Anne Brauer is staunchly opposed to modern dating. Suddenly, she finds herself in a situationship of GOTHIC proportions. Much like in a musical where characters break into song, in this Anne bursts into passages from Brontë novels. Part Rom-Com, Part Period-Piece!

Jane Eyre Wasn’t a Whore made its world premiere in 2025 at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. It went on to have a successful run at New York City at The Rat theatre and as part of the 2026 Knockouts Comedy Festival.

Reviews:

“This show is so amazing!... can’t recommend it enough!”

“Fantastic show. Brilliantly written, directed, and acted. Carly Polistina is a star. Rush to see it.”

“Plucky indeed.”

“Jane Eyre Wasn’t a Whore will play especially well with die-hard Brontë fans (reader, I among them) who know all the in-references, but it could equally introduce a generation of heartsick comedy fans to the fact that 150-year-old novels have the perfect advice for when he/she/they won’t text you back.”

A Home for The Homemade

The Lemonade Stand strives to create a home for new work and new artists in the expansive Philadelphia arts community. We prioritize the development process, community, and partnership. We are committed to being rough around the edges, adaptive to each process, and true to the artist's vision.

A company by and for emerging theatre artists, we aim to foster and celebrate communities of artists who create beyond The Lemonade Stand. We want to bring artists of all mediums to collaborate, find community, and unlock new creative possibilities. We are successful when artists collaborate outside the Lemonade Stand and we are proud to be a part of the next generation of Philadelphia artists.

We love homemade.
