His first marriage ended in unutterable grief... his second marriage ends in unimaginable terror! Obsession for the lost LIGEIA spirals into madness in Edgar Allan Poe’s most haunting story. As evidence of a supernatural presence mounts, we wonder... is it just the opium, or has his new wife’s corpse been possessed?
Now Poe’s chilling tale of revivification is brought to life through physical theatre. Solo-performer William Trevino weaves poetic language with his four decades of martial arts training to create a visceral atmosphere of suspense. A 6th degree black belt in Soo Bahk Do and a veteran Poe performer, Trevino transforms traditional choreography to embody the psychological struggles of Poe’s narrator. Intimate and emotionally intense, LIGEIA is intended for mature audiences.
Trevino’s work devising theatre from martial arts has been performed at various avant-garde NYC venues, including Dixon Place, HERE Arts Center, The Bushwick Starr, and CPR (Center for Performance Research). His Poe performances have ranged from The Tell-Tale Heart at the Baltimore Poe House & Museum to the video podcast Gothic Tales at Manhattan Neighborhood Network / MNN.
Cannonball is the largest hub of the Philadelphia Fringe Festival, championing a revolutionary artist-led model that prioritizes equity, experimentation, and community connection. Now in its sixth year, Cannonball presents more than 100 artists across five stages, representing nearly 30 percent of the overall Philadelphia Fringe Festival. From rebellious circus and delicious dance to fearless theater and activist art, Cannonball pushes the boundaries of live performance while creating a vibrant, artist-centered ecosystem for independent performance makers and adventurous audiences alike.

About the Artist
William Trevino is an actor/creator, martial artist, and educator. His devised physical theatre works were performed at various off-off Broadway venues including Dixon Place and HERE Arts Center. He is a 6th degree black belt and certified master instructor of Soo Bahk Do, a Korean martial art he has practiced for over 40 years. His martial arts approach to expressive movement has received grants from the Jerome Foundation and the Queens Arts Fund. He holds an MFA in Acting from UC Irvine and an MA in Liberal Studies in East Asia from Columbia University, researching “Physical Principles of Martial Arts Applied to Theatre Performance” for his thesis. His movement-based adaptation of “The Tell-Tale Heart” by Edgar Allan Poe was presented in a bedroom of the Poe Historical House & Museum in Baltimore, and his new program dedicated to Poe, "Gothic Tales", airs its first episode this summer on Manhattan Neighborhood Network/MNN (Manhattan's public-access television). He is a professor of theatre at St. Joseph’s University in Brooklyn.
