“Mingus and TOILET TRAIN YOUR CAT” is a puppet piece using a multiple of puppetry styles to tell the story of the conflict between cats and humans and how one jazz composer and musician, Charles Mingus, offered a possible solution. It is an original solo piece created and performed by Jim Julien. The piece contains music, narration and sound elements along with unique lighting and shadow puppet effects to propel this funny and unique story.
Studio 34 is a mixed-use yoga/healing/arts spot in West Philly named for the trolley that stops
out front. All year long we host art, comedy, dance, music, poetry and theatre in our gallery,
lounge, and studio spaces, as well as healing services, 30 weekly yoga classes. And a wide array of workshops.

About the Artist
Jim Julien is a performance artist, puppeteer, playwright and visual artist. A Philadelphia area resident, Mr. Julien has previously presented his work in the 2022, 2023 and 2025 Philly Fringe Festivals. As part of the Cannonball Festival, he presented KRAMPUS GETS CRAMPED in September 2025. Mr. Julien was artistic co-director of the Asheville Fringe Arts Festival for 18 years. Mr. Julien’s work has won Fringe awards in Portland, ME, Pittsburgh, PA and Shenandoah (Staunton, VA) Fringe festivals and he has also performed in the Cincinnati. St. Louis, Chicago, Nashville and Richmond Fringe festivals.
