Broken commitments, sudden abandonments, and flat-out rejections take a toll on a 20-something queer girl after a while.
This ‘dramedic’ one-person show explores the grief, wisdom, and humor of rejection through sketches, monologues, parody, and characters. Inspired by the works of comedic geniuses like Mike Birbiglia, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Abbi Jacobson, and Amy Poehler, “okay, bye!” covers romantic heartbreak, bad friends, therapists who’ve ghosted, an exploration of gender identity and sexuality, and one irritated cat. In a show that’s equal parts clever comedy and sincere search for meaning, Kaila asks themself: “Who am I really, and what am I looking for?”
This show is for lovers, poets, artists, queer people, women, bisexuals, people outside the binary, anyone in the middle of a huge life transition, storytellers, grievers, people who take themselves on dates, cat lovers, funny people, therapy goers, and fans of Beyoncé Giselle Knowles-Carter.
"Kaila Galinat wins you over with dark humor wrapped in unbridled optimism, taking life's big and little rejections and treating them with retroactive hilarious kindness." - Gabe S Dunn, writer
"Kaila Galinat's okay, bye! is a genre-bending queer romp about self-acceptance in the face of personal rejection [...] Galinat is a raucously funny and charismatic presence onstage. Their comedic writing is smart and quick and their timing onstage is perfect; no punchline goes unhit, leaving the audience in fits of laughter." - Carmen Burbridge, All About Solo (4.5/5 Stars)

I seek and create opportunities to make theatre, television, and voiceover work which reaches people on a deep personal level. I enjoy storytelling as a social, political, and joyful act. I regularly consider the principle of the artist as citizen when approaching my work, and the impact of the stories I tell. As a queer person, I also strive to diversify the types of stories that reach mainstream audiences.
