Oleanna is an uncomfortably relevant play that explores the intricate interplay of gender, authority, control, and education. Witness the deeply personal and profoundly affecting dialogues between a university professor and his student as they struggle to truly understand one another. The academic setting becomes a crucible where assumptions are challenged and communication breaks down. Written in 1992 in response to the Anita Hill-Clarence Thomas hearing, Oleanna invites audiences to reflect on their own perspectives, assumptions, and values. In today’s world, it’s easy for differences to grow into divisions, especially when our conversations touch on sensitive topics. It is our goal that our production of this play encourages open, honest dialogue with friends and family or fellow audience members. We encourage you to listen to each other, respect one another, and consider leaving all chairs firmly on the ground.

About the Artist
At It's Complicated Productions, we believe in the immensely powerful spell that live theater casts on its audience. Having been bewitched long ago, we now craft thought-provoking theater that aims to challenge and inspire our fellow audiences.
David Roth has performed for audiences around the world. Along with Sarah, David studied with Patrick Page at the Patrick Page Studio in New York as well as with the late, very great John Ingle in Los Angeles. David is a magician, a drummer, a sugarmaker and a proud Vermonter living in Fairlee and St Johnsbury with his beautiful family.
Sarah Mercer, actor, singer, director and structural engineer has performed on stage in major cities like NYC, Boston, Charleston, Charlottesville, and Memphis and made her Lincoln Center debut in Octavia E. Butler's Parable of the Sower opera adapted by Toshi Reagon. She has previously studied under the tutelage of Patrick Page and the Patrick Page Studio as well as Eric Paeper and Sidse Ploug Soerensen at The Barrow Group. Sarah currently lives, works and hustles in New York City.
