About the Artist

Mazel is an experimental performer, artist, and educator in Philadelphia. They bend the bounds of clown, opera, noise, theatre, ritual, theology, text, and media. Musically, they have been compared to avant garde icons Nina Hagen, Bjork, and Kate Bush. They are frequently colliding the sacred and profane, the sublime and grotesque. GODHOLE is informed by 3 threads: Mazel’s work as an early childhood educator; Mazel’s background in speculative theology and Jewish mysticism; and Mazel’s amateur scientific interests in amoebas, particles, and quantum physics. The culmination is a masterfully entwined madness of science, mysticism, philosophy, and humanity.

Sarah Billings is a director, teaching artist, and theater maker based in Philadelphia. She is the founder and producing artistic director of Open Theater Workshop, a volunteer theater organization that brings together artists of different life experiences and different levels of experience in the theater, including none at all, to create ambitious productions through a deeply collaborative process. She is passionate about community projects that allow participants to surprise themselves with their own artistry.
