“Slowly, slowly we begin again... ” is an evening length dance performance choreographed and performed by Katherine M Yatsko exploring her transition into motherhood through the lens of a snail.
Through immersive scenery and an ethereal soundscape, the audience will be transported into a snail’s story; A story of discovering what it means to become home to yourself as you become home to someone else.
Learning to slow down and adapt to the surrounding environment is an integral part to becoming a parent for the first time and Katherine has found solace in exploring that experience through this other world, a world on the forest floor surrounded by oak trees and moss, a world of crickets, snails, and slugs, a world we are being invited into.
As the story unspirals, Katherine comes home to herself again and again and again, filling her shell with what matters most to her as she realizes that she, like a snail, can take her home with her wherever she goes.
The run time of this performance is about 50 minutes and there is no intermission.

About the Artist
Katherine M Yatsko (Katie, she/her) is an interdisciplinary artist based in West Chester, PA. With a background in dance, fibers, and sculpture, Katherine constantly seeks connection and intersection between moving and making. Since becoming a mother in 2022, her practice has expanded to include tender explorations of motherhood and care. Working across means and media, Katie explores themes of vulnerability, emotional expression, the human experience, and connection to self and others, often seen through a nature based lens.
In 2025, Katherine launched her creative brand Nature and Nurture, offering art products that allow people to slow down and receive, daily, the beauty and love they are worthy of—through small, intentional objects like stickers and notecards.

This event is appropriate for ages 7+
This performance includes a very short (3 min or less) abstracted depiction of the immediate postpartum time period (C-Section specific). There is nothing graphic portrayed but it may bring up feelings for anyone who has been through the experience. My hope is that sharing my birth story through this abstracted lens, will allow for a collective healing and at the same time, I do recognize that this section of the performance could feel triggering to some.
