Tӕngle brings together movement, sound, spoken text, and fiber arts to feel our way through the collective histories of commons and enclosure and personal histories of abundance and scarcity. The seed of this performance was planted eight years ago when Lead Artist Miryam Coppersmith read Silvia Federici's Caliban and the Witch: Women, the Body and Primitive Accumulation. Federici's Feminist Marxist analysis of the witch hunts and the beginning threads of modern capitalism opened up questions for Miryam. What does abundance looks like in a crowded world? What does safety looks like when we let the world and each other be wild? What do we do now? Bringing these questions into the room with a cast of collaborators- performers and designers- gave rise to this performance.

About the Artist

Lead Artist Miryam Coppersmith (she/they) is a Philadelphia-based performance artist and educator who aims to create spaces for transformation for her collaborators, audience, and greater community. Miryam creates eclectic performances using movement, speech, and sound coming from her own body and drawing from a variety of trainings. Through structured improvisation and audience interaction, Miryam's work acknowledges that performance is co-created in real time with an audience. Their performances often explore the tender, embodied, emotion-ful reality of living within our societal systems and the impact of history on the body.
