The Boo Hag is a cautionary tale of strangers, theft, and the unknown. Adapted from Gullah Geechee folklore originating from the islands of South Carolina, the Boo Hag is a haint, an evil spirit that seeks to get into your home to drink your soul. The Boo Hag takes place in 1965, when the United States was in a transformative state. The Civil Rights Movement, the Cold War, and the mass expansion of wealth and luxury in the United States created a clashing storm of triumphs and conflicts. The story is about a widowed woman and her house cleaner, who must survive a haunting nightmare at the hands of the breathtaking Boo Hag. Can they defeat the Boo Hag, or will they both succumb to its power?
This is a multidisciplinary performance that marries theatre, dance, music, song, and circus art together to weave together a cohesive narrative. Each performer provides a unique skillset that bridges together harmoniously.
