About the Artist

Love Stinks, LLC is the creative home of writer/producer Michael LaFata and writer/lyricist Perry Sachs, the team behind the original musical comedy Love Is Afoot!

Born from a shared love of classic Hollywood musicals, big-band music, screwball comedy, and the theatrical grandeur of the 1940s and 1950s, Love Stinks was formed to create work that feels both nostalgic and defiantly original.

With Love Is Afoot!, LaFata and Sachs set out to write a musical that pays homage to the Golden Era without simply imitating it. Their goal was not to create dialogue sung over an underscore, but to build a world where each song stands on its own — melodically distinct, lyrically clever, emotionally specific, and theatrically alive. In the tradition of the great movie musicals and Broadway songbooks, they believe the music should not merely support the story; the music should be the spectacle.

At the center of Love Is Afoot! is an offbeat romantic comedy about love, shoes, longing, otherness, and the beautiful truth that “Everybody’s Got Something.” Through big-band swing, hot jazz, heartfelt ballads, comic numbers, and old-school showmanship, LaFata and Sachs have created a musical world that celebrates individuality, secret desire, and the courage to be seen.
