About the Artist

"What She Really Wants" is a collaborative performance installation devised by Charles Manion, Gwyneth Zeleny Anderson, and Skye Fort with assistance from Heather Swenson. Skye Fort (Lead Performer): Skye is a multi-disciplinary artist whose practice includes theatre, video, performance, music, and installation. Her work focuses on themes of excess and consumption, the environment and destruction, discomfort, failure, and the chaotic and messy aspects of being alive. Through a combination of disciplines, she is interested in exploring non-narrative forms of storytelling and communication. Charles Manion: Charlie is a Midwestern glass and sound artist who connects aesthetic experiences to material processes. He has worked as a scientific glassblower, touring musician, and is the scenic designer for CAROL Performance Group, an experimental theater company in New York. He writes about glass as a Lois F. McNeil Fellow at the Winterthur Program in American Material Culture. Gwyneth Zeleny Anderson: Gwyneth's art practice facilitates an alternative attention to our surroundings and each other by proposing unusual modes of relation. They aim to interrupt isolation and find meaning by making the familiar strange. By using banal experiences as reference points (a bucket, folding chairs, plastic straws), Gwyneth rearranges our shared physical reality in unexpected, sometimes humorous ways. Meaning and connection can be felt through moments of synchronicity and invisible phenomena made perceptible, such as a bucket filled with water from every sink in the building in which it sits, or soil taken from a remote ICE detention center. By inventing ways to orient ourselves, Gwyneth tries to reveal resonance and significance obscured by systems that dehumanize and separate.
