William Acker is William Acker and William Acker is Running for the Mayor of Philadelphia (WAWA) is satirical political, mayhem inducing, performance art. William Acker plays the role of William Acker—an incompetent (ostensibly), flawed (purportedly), narcissistic (allegedly), yet intensely driven (factually) and idealistic (factually again) citizen running for the mayoral seat of Philadelphia (the birthplace of democracy), with a mission to live a beautiful way of life. WAWA makes a mockery of democracy's trust in one person to represent the many. William Acker exposes the shortcomings of elective systems by running on a campaign that imagines the birthplace of democracy in his own image. William Acker is fighting to make his world a better place (and you're just living in it).

About the Artist

William Acker (gentle he/him, funny they/them, magnetic she/her) is a fan of slow mornings, a gardener, a sweet husband, a nurturing friend, mischievous and a pot stirrer, a queer artist, and full of dreams. William's artistic practice is to honor the memories of the heart; to build a more meaningful community, sustained happiness, and fulfilling love. He is an educator, devised performance artist, queer theorist and writer. William graduated with a MFA in devised performance from The Pig Iron School/Rowan University and specializes in dance theatre, Lecoq pedagogy, clown, and ensemble movement. William is a founding collaborator of Very Good Dance Theatre (VGDT): a queer-led, BIPOC-centered, performance art collective founded in 2018 in Dallas, TX. William is also a founding collaborator and lead producer of The Hum: a physical theatre, ensemble driven collective based in Philadelphia, PA.
