I feel so lucky to have seen Girlfriends. It’s a show that is full of heart, humor, and (mostly) honesty. Sitting in the audience, I felt like I was at a sleepover listening to my best friend tell me a story. Your performance was so captivating that I left overflowing with emotions and nostalgia for a time in my own life where I was still discovering who I was and who I wanted to be. I’ve never seen a show quite like it.

It was a journey of heartbreak transformed into hope. A great exploration of a leap of faith, both in a stranger, and oneself. I felt, at times, like I was in the car with the two main characters, traveling across the country and also finding myself along the way.

But not only is Girlfriends emotional, nostalgic, and exploratory in more ways than one, it’s hilarious – leaving me, and the rest of the audiences, in fits of laughter more than a couple of times. I attended the show with a close friend who said they’d NEVER heard me laugh so much and so loud at once. The power of your humor knows no bounds.

There is something magical about the storytelling in the experience of Girlfriends. I felt as though, with a single chair, you actually brought us under the stars or in the middle of the desert in Texas. And as if that weren’t enough, your singing (!!!) was the absolute perfect icing on the most delicious cake. The song choices were perfectly curated, but the performance of them was unmatched.

I have never and likely would never go on a cross country road trip with a stranger, and yet, I saw so much of myself in this show. It’s true artistry to be able to create such relatability with such a unique story. I hope you could see that standing ovation as us building an immense kinship with characters we’d only just been introduced to. I felt that by the end I had watched two different women and missed them both.

As a fellow writer, it left me inspired, in awe, and wanting more. Thank you!!

With a desire to create together and be friends!,

Melissa
