Overview

“This Complicated Place” is a collaboration between creators of visual art and performance art. Our point of commonality is that we use our art forms to tell stories. Each of us has explored place, space, and memory in our art, and, based on our various collaborations, we want to work together. This project builds on our 2022 collaboration, “Imagination Playground” at Hatfield House, where, in an outdoor setting, Wing’s sculptures and Castro’s sculptural puppets were the focal points for Castro-Tauser’s choreography and guided improvisation. Now we bring this concept indoors, adding Bush’s projections, Tauser’s photography and film, and the use of audience journey through a physical space

About the Artist

[Christina Castro-Tauser] 194/200
Christina Castro-Tauser is a classically trained ballet dancer, choreographer of classical and contemporary dance, dance educator, and arts administrator. Her ballet training in Cuba and the United States led to a BA in Dance from Point Park University, and her subsequent experience in contemporary dance, dance education, community engagement, and choreography led her to Philadelphia, where she earned an MFA in dance at Temple University in 2018. Immediately on graduation, she was hired as an adjunct instructor to teach “Embodying Pluralism,” a general education course that explores identity, diversity, and community through movement. She began choreographing while an apprentice with the Colorado Ballet, creating “Cafe con Leche” for the Colorado Ballet Studio Company. Her company, Expansions Contemporary Dance Ensemble, inviting local dancers of a wide range of ages and strengths in multiple dance genres into the company. Her 2018 evening-length ¿Que Pasa Ahora? explores the changing dynamics of the modern family. She was one of three winners of the inaugural “Art is Philly” grants in 2022, creating “Along the 23,” a public art installation along the historic bus route that involved nine visual artists and nine videos of site-specific pieces choreographed for Expansions dancers
